ITS standards are fundamental to the establishment of an open ITS environment. Standards are important components of the information flows in the Bay Area Regional ITS Architecture. They facilitate deployment of interoperable systems at local, regional, and national levels without impeding innovation as technology advances and new approaches evolve.

The Bay Area Regional ITS Architecture identifies the ITS standards that are applicable to the ITS activities in the region. Their use encourages interoperability among systems, and stakeholders are strongly encouraged to use the applicable standards when feasible.

The following list provides all ITS standards that are applicable in the Bay Area, and the information flows to which each applies. Each standard is hyperlinked to the Bay Area's information flows to which that standard may apply.
